Christmas Party Game: Hershey Kisses

Christmas party food and gift
Everyone enjoys Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses at their Christmas party. At my house, the red and green bags are dumped into a bowl that we pick at during the entire party.

Supplies: Bowls, bags of Hershey Kisses. Oversized mittens or gloves, one pair for each team.

Setup: Have two bowls of Hershey’s kisses at the other end of the room.

To play this Christmas Party Game

For this Christmas party game, divide your group into two teams.

Give each team one set of the oversized gloves.

The first person in line runs to the bowl of Hershey kisses. They are to take one and to unwrap the Hershey Kiss while wearing the oversized mittens/gloves and pop the kiss into their mouth (unless they are allergic to chocolate).

They run back, tag the next person in line, and exchange the mittens/gloves and the next person runs forward to get a chocolate kiss.

The winning team of this Christmas party game is the one in which all members have enjoyed a Hershey kiss.

Christmas Carol Mix Up Party Game

How to play:

  1. Make a list Christmas Carols and other popular songs.  A sample list is below.  Remove the funny song titles.
  2. Break your group into teams.
  3. Give one team a portion of the song titles.
  4. Each team is to take the song titles and reword it using similar language.  Examples are below.
  5. The teams take turn reading the funny title and the other team must guess the original title.

Variant:

Make some flash cards with the following funny song titles.

Give teams with a buzzer or something so that teams compete to guess the first correct title, a la Jeopardy.  The first team to hit the buzzer must give the right answer or the other teams can buzz to guess.

The group leader reads the funny title and the teams compete to be the first group to guess the correct one.

Reworded Christmas Songs:

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas – Experience a Joyous Tiny December 25th

O Holy Night – Oh Sacred Evening

Santa Claus is Coming to Town – A Jolly Man in a Red Suit is Arriving in Our Place of Residence

Jingle Bell Rock – Tinkling Chime Groove

All I Want for Christmas Is You – Everything I Hope for the Birth Day of Jesus is the 21st Letter of the Alphabet

Joy to the World – Bliss for the Planet

Christmas Time is Here – December 25th Has Arrived

Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer – Bambi with a Clown Nose

Frosty the Snowman – Chilly the Frozen Water Guy

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer – Mom’s Mother Got Trampled by a Sleigh Puller

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree – Dancing Circles Near the December 25th Shrubbery

Brainstorm other Christmas Carols to add to this list.

Charades Christmas Party Game for Church Groups

This Christmas party game is a classic game of Charades that can easily be adapted to a christmas party for your church.

The only preparation or modification you need to make for younger players is in the selection of simpler one word topics.

Christmas Party Charades  for Children:

  • Select a few simple Christmas words and phrases for the children to act out.
  • Have every one of  children sit on the floor while one child stands in front.
  • Whisper to the child what Christmas word he or she is to mime and let the other children guess.
  • Once the correct answer is guessed a new actor is selected and play continues.

Christmas Party Charades for Older Children:

  • Have them Brainstorm a list of 10-15 Christmas topics that the other team will perform.
  • Screen and sort the two groups of christmas themed topics for 3 levels of difficulty.
  • Assign a higher point value for the most difficult christmas themes.  This is a game of points for the teams!
  • Then break the youth or middle schoolers into teams.
  • Each team then selects the desired difficulty level and the volunteer draws a topic from the stack that the other group made.
  • One player tries to act out the Christmas themed clue for his or her team to guess.
  • There is no stealing because the opposing teams created the clues. At the end of play, the team with the most points wins.

Variations

  • Use Christmas Carols as a category instead of broad Christmas party topics.
  • Use Christmas events from Scriptures as a choice of topics.  Some of the scenes can be broken into further scenes.  Be sure that if you have people familiar with the bible scattered among the teams.  Discuss any insights that might arise from these Christmas charades.

Who am I?

I'm Chris Walker.    I did youth work in various churches for nearly fifteen years (Methodist, Presbyterian, Assemblies of God), before taking my first associate pastor call in a Presbyterian Church.

After that I helped launch a church for immigrants where I served as the Young Adult leader

I remember each Christmas season trying to come up with various Christmas Party Game ideas that I could use in our youth group or young adult Christmas parties.

It was a routine every Christmas season.

What Christmas Party games can I use that will help me point people to Christ?
